When space is at a premium, the usual inclination is to knock down walls and whitewash surfaces to create a sense of openness. With this small but charming studio apartment, we did quite the opposite.
Peter and Alicia wanted separate living and kitchen areas to suit their lifestyle so we created niches by using a 2-way walk-in wardrobe to segregate both areas. While the bedroom is delineated by sliding doors for privacy, we used large glass-panelled frames to allow for natural light flow and to further open up the space.
We worked mainly with a neutral colour palette and used cool colours in an oversized geometric design on the main living room wall creating a greater depth perception and a general sense of calm.
